Our Mission
Friends of Lake Concordia is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. The Corporation is operated exclusively for charitable, religious, scientific, literary, or educational purposes, namely to preserve and protect Lake Concordia and its surrounding tributaries from indiscriminate waste, protect its wetlands and aquatic habitats, and ensure that Lake Concordia meets the needs of the public via recreation and environmental education.
Our Story & Future Projects
We were founded in April 2024, and granted a nonprofit designation by the IRS in May 2024. Our future projects include a biological study of the lake in partnership with Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries, fundraisers in partnership with the Lake Advisory Committee (appointed by the Concordia Parish Police Jury) to provide gauges across the lake, fundraisers to update drainage and the weir to best support the natural wildlife habitat, clean up days for the tributaries that drain the lake, and educational programs to target the local underserved rural minority community about public access to waterways, lake safety, environmentally friendly practices, and the unique wildlife habitat of the lake fostered by the Mississippi Flyway and proximity to the Mississippi River.
Leadership
Caroline Cole, President. Caroline grew up with the wetlands of the Tensas basin in her family history and is an avid outdoorswoman. Her love of Lake Concordia and the waters around it is the reason Friends of Lake Concordia exists.
